This little lady decided to put mom through some prodromal labor for a couple days then rapidly came, making it the second birth I ever missed (first was a first time mom had a start to finish labor/delivery in under 52 minutes - they called me as she was pushing 😅)
Little A’s birth went like this:
4:30am - contractions 17-30 minutes apart very inconsistent described as “some feel like cramps some hurt”
5:20am - “they all hurt now”
5:48am - “heading to hospital” first 3 consistent contractions at 5 minutes apart.
*decides to have me wait until they at least get to triage*
6:53am - *gets checked* “she’s 9cm!!!”
* on my way!!! * 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️
7:40am - “babies out!”
7:45am - * I walk in* 🤦🏻‍♀️

This birth was full of surrendering. From weeks of prodromal labor, a long and intense early labor, so many stalls, unwanted but necessary interventions. To finally getting to pushing, and trying for hours and hours and hours with no descent. After being assessed by multiple providers and a specialist, it was determined that one of mom’s bones was being popped inwards every time she would push, blocking the babies ability to drop any further. They said they’ve never been able to feel so clearly what the problem was and were perplexed by the fact mom had no previous hip or pelvic injuries to cause this. She surrendered completely to the process even when things didn’t go the way she wanted them to. A C-section was suggested as the best and safest option for both mom and baby.
In this scenario, where she delivered mattered so much! At another hospital this series of events would most likely have been rushed, taken her autonomy away, been dealt with in a “my way or the highway” manner. But this team was calm, respectful, and so supportive. They made sure she felt heard in every step of the way, gave her autonomy and space to make decisions on her own, and truly provided the best environment for her to maintain as much control and choice as possible, in a situation that can so easily take all of that away.
